Policies | Combe Tennis Center

  1. Northwestern students and members may reserve courts by phone at 847-491-4312 up to one day in advance of play. All non-Northwestern student and non-member players must pay the daily entry fee and fill out a waiver to access the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion.

  2. Northwestern students are eligible for free drop-in play when courts are available. All players must be Northwestern students and present a valid Wildcard for verification at the time of play.

  3. Appropriate attire for tennis is expected. Shirts and proper footwear must be worn at all times.

  4. Footwear must be clean, flat, soft rubber-soled court shoes of the non-marking type. Street shoes—regardless of the kind of sole—are not permitted. Tennis shoes can be checked out for free at the Pro Shop.

  5. No food, candy, gum, or tobacco products are allowed on courts. Water and sports drinks in unbreakable closed containers are permitted.

  6. Play must stop immediately at the end of your reserved time slot, regardless of whether or not another party is waiting to occupy the court.

  7. Cursing, yelling, racket throwing, abuse to court surfaces, walls, or ceiling will not be permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the facility immediately and will be billed for damages.

  8. When changing sides of the court, walk around instead of stepping or jumping over the net.

  9. Avoid leaning against the tennis net cable or striking the band with a racket.

  10. Return a ball from an adjacent court only when the person to whom it is directed is clearly ready to receive it.

  11. When entering or leaving a tennis court, avoid interfering with play on adjacent courts.

  12. If the tennis court surface is damp or slippery, stop play at once and report it to staff.

  13. Only authorized Athletics and Recreation Department staff are allowed to provide fee-based lessons.
  14. An adult must accompany children under the age of 16. Children who are not playing tennis are not allowed on the courts, nor can they be left unattended in the balcony or other parts of the building. Infants are not permitted on the tennis courts.
