Policies | Sauna

  1. Children under 16 years of age are not permitted in the sauna unless accompanied by an adult. Children under 10 years of age are at a greater risk of heat-related injuries.
     
  2. Elderly people and or individuals under medical care should seek the advice of their physician prior to using the sauna. Exposure to high heat may be harmful to health and may even cause death. Alcohol and certain medications may increase these risks.
     
  3. Exit the sauna immediately if you feel dizzy, uncomfortable, or sleepy.
     
  4. Report all injuries or medical emergencies to the building staff.
     
  5. Sauna use should not exceed 30 minutes.
     
  6. Lights must stay on at all times.

  7. Do not pour water on the heating element at any time.

  8. Shoes are not permitted.

  9. Shower before using the sauna and sit on a towel while inside.

  10. Do not place anything on the sauna heater at any time.

  11. No food, drink, newspapers or other reading materials are permitted in the sauna.

  12. No photography or filming is allowed in sauna.

  13. The use of cell phones is strictly prohibited in the sauna and locker room areas.

  14. Oil-based products of any kind (e.g., baby oil, shaving/body/shower lotions) are prohibited in the sauna area.

  15. Northwestern Recreation staff may prohibit activities deemed unsafe.
