TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

My training philosophy is a fairly holistic approach to fitness with a focus on intensity over volume. I believe most fitness goals, however specialized or specific, are compatible with each other. The prevailing narrative surrounding different fitness goals (for example, training for strength vs training for short-distance track and field events vs training simply to look better or be healthier) is that you need to sacrifice performance in one aspect of fitness to excel in another. I think this is a misguided approach: building muscle mass and strength is great for sport-specific performance, whether you dance ballet or play rugby, and aerobic fitness, flexibility, and mobility are extremely important for athletic performance and general quality of life. I also believe in prioritizing exercise intensity over volume. If you train intensely and program effectively, there is (typically) no need to work out for hours at a time, even to perform at an elite level. Fitness should complement your lifestyle, and I don't think you need to sacrifice performance to make that happen.
