Job Description

Wildcat Varsity Sports Camp is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to fill the role of Camp Director. The Camp Director will play a crucial role in oversight of the day-to-day operations of the camp, developing and implementing engaging programming, facilitating activities, and ensuring the well-being and safety of campers and staff. The Director is responsible for leading campers on daily biking excursions around Northwestern University Evanston Campus to a variety of athletic and recreation sites. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience in camp management or similar programs, and a genuine enthusiasm for creating positive experiences for campers in middle school through junior high age.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Wildcat Sports Camp professional staff, the Camp Director will plan, organize, implement, and supervise daily activities to include a variety of sports and focus on developmentally age-appropriate health and wellness activities and athletic fundamentals that include but are not limited to speed, agility, coordination, and balance.
  • Responsible for fostering an environment in which all campers feel welcomed, valued, safe, and affirmed. Monitor camper and counselor behavior to ensure a positive camp experience.
  • Report any conduct that does not align with camp expectations and goals to professional staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to campers in sport skill development, teamwork, and overall health and wellness components key to all sports and healthy lifestyle foundation.
  • Assist with the participation and lead elements of counselor orientation, weekly staff meetings, and in-services, as needed.
  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of camp staff. Ensure camp staff adhere to their assigned work schedules and provide ongoing performance feedback. 
  • Foster and model a positive and collaborative work environment among camp staff.
  • Manage onsite camp operations, including communications, staff schedule, group assignments, attendance, safety, and coordination with professional staff.
  • Address and communicate any issues, injuries or emergencies that may arise during camp sessions.
  • Manage daily system to ensure a safe camper drop-off and pick-up, as well as rotations throughout the day.
  • In coordination with professional staff, maintain communication lines with camp families through daily communication systems including communication related to campers experiencing behavioral issues, difficulties, illness, or injury.
  • Establish and communicate camp rules, policies, and routines to ensure a safe camp environment.
  • Maintain camp supplies and equipment. Ensure camp staff have all necessary supplies and equipment to conduct camp activities. Inventory and request new camp supplies and equipment in a timely manner.  
  • Ensure camp staff keeps the site presentable and safe, including facility rooms, restrooms, outdoor recreation areas, and storage areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in camp management or similar programming.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge and passion for sports and outdoor activities.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
